The Guide to GEO, AEO and AI Search

By Terry French · Inventor of the Alpha Page

ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity are answering your customers' questions right now. Most businesses don't appear in those answers — not because they're not good, but because AI can't read their data. This book fixes that.

How to Get Cited by AI — v1.0 by Terry French
The History

Every era has new rules.

The businesses that won each era were the ones who learned the new rules first.

1883 – 1990s

Yellow Pages

Pay to be listed.

You bought a display ad in a physical directory. Bigger ad, more calls. The algorithm was your wallet.

1998 – 2023

Blue Links

Optimize to rank.

Search engines indexed websites. You built backlinks, wrote keyword-rich content, and chased the top ten results.

2024 – Now

AI Citation

Structure to be cited.

AI models answer questions directly. They cite sources they can read. If your data is unstructured, you do not exist.

Inside the Book

Eight chapters. No fluff.

Written by someone who built the product first, then wrote the book.

01

Big Search Energy

Yellow Pages, Blue Links, and Yellow Pages again. Every era of business visibility has a new rulebook. Here is the new one.

02

The Visibility Gap

Sending machines to do a human's job. Who is getting cited right now, who is getting skipped, and why the gap is widening every day.

03

The Energy Cost of AI Search

Unstructured search vs. structured search. The environmental and computational cost of AI models guessing about your business — and how structured data fixes it.

04

What Is GEO and Why It Matters

Generative Engine Optimization explained without the jargon. Finally.

05

What Is AEO and Why It Matters

Answer Engine Optimization is real, it is funded, and Fortune 500 companies are building entire teams for it.

06

The AI Visibility Gap in Financial Services

GEO and AEO for banks, credit card companies, insurance, and fintech. The highest-stakes category in AI search.

07

The AI Visibility Gap for Small and Disadvantaged Businesses

Apply what matters to your situation. The businesses with the most to gain are often the ones with the least structured data.

08

Alpha Search, Alpha Score, and Alpha Page

The step-by-step guide to running your diagnostic, reading your results, and building a structured AI profile every major model can read and cite.

The Author

Hi, I'm Terry.
I didn't set out
to write this book.

I set out to build an AI infrastructure startup.

I'm a US Army Signal Corps veteran with 20 years in IT and entrepreneurship. In the early summer of 2022, I built my first AI search product on a local rig with a 12GB GPU at a coworking space in San Antonio. I called it Prompt Search.

By 2026 it had evolved into Alpha Search and Alpha Page — a structured AI visibility profile that tells every major AI model exactly how to find, understand, use, and cite a business or product.

Somewhere between shipping the product and talking to customers — I realized the category needed a handbook. Not a think piece. Not a whitepaper. A plain-language guide that anyone can pick up and use.

That's this book.

Built from real work. Not theory.
